Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon

Radio Flyer Trav-ler Wagon

Every legend has its beginning, and the childrens favorite Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon is no exception. Follow the rise of one Italian immigrant's great creations.

Fresh off the Boat
The story of the Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon begins in 1914. Sixteen-year-old Italian immigrant Antonio Pasin arrives in Chicago. Although his family had a rich heritage in cabinet making, young Pasin could not find a carpentry job. With no alternative, he became a water boy for construction crews.

The Roaring 20s
His true passion was wood working, and by 1917 Pasin had saved enough money to buy used equipment and rent a small workshop. By 1923 he had several employees working for his business, the Liberty Coaster Company. The poor immigrant nobody would hire would become a wealthy man in less than a decade. The Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon for children is closer to realization.

Surviving Depression
In 1930, Pasin changes the company's name to Radio Steel & Manufacturing. Although economic depression tightened everyone's belt, the company turned a profit. At the 1933 Chicago World's Fair, Pasin introduced his Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon.

It's in the Name
The Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon is so called for three reasons:

  • Genius Italiano: Pasin was fascinated by another great Italian's invention, the radio.
  • Reaching for the Sky: Pasin was captivated by the mystery of flight.
  • True Colors: Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon displayed the rich hue of homegrown patriotism. It was also the cheapest paint available.

The Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon Today
Even today, the Radio Flyer Company is the leading producer of wagons for children and adults. Presently, third generation Pasins continue the Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon tradition. Innovative ideas and diligent motivation moves the Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon legacy ever forward.
